The Lipizzaners are the horse breed with the longest history in the whole of Europe. Today, however, they are in danger of extinction: there are only about 3,800 Lipizzaners left worldwide. Therefore, our main task has to be to preserve these unique creatures for the generations to come as well as making them known and accessible as a piece of the living heritage of baroque times today.
The Lipizzaners breeding tradition dates back to the 1500s and the Haute Ecole of classical horsemanship even to ancient Greece. Since 1920 these noble horses are bred at the Federal Stud Piber, situated in western Styria.
